The rules you should be aware of for your customers

Daily limit (meal vouchers): 5x the face value

  • Each cardholder has a daily limit based on the face value of their card
  • Example: €8 card = €40/day limit (5 x €8)
  • ⚠️ Important: This rule comes from Luxembourg legislation, not from Edenred
  • If the payment is declined, the customer may have reached their daily limit

Contactless payment: maximum €50

  • For amounts over €50, ask the customer to insert the card and enter their PIN code (if they have one)
  • This is a European banking security standard

Sufficient balance required

  • The card balance must cover the full amount
  • Automatic partial payment is not possible
  • The customer should check their balance in the MyEdenred app
  • Solution: offer to split the transaction into 2 payments (Edenred card + another payment method)

Best practices

If a payment is declined:

  1. Check the amount (is it over €50 for a contactless payment?)
  2. Ask the customer to check their balance in the Edenred app
  3. Suggest a split payment if the balance is insufficient
    • Transaction 1: Amount available on the Edenred card
    • Transaction 2: Remaining balance with a bank card or cash
  4. Remind them that the daily limit resets at midnight
